Over the past decade, we have amassed so much data that it has become impossible to separate the gold from the dirt. At the same time, Metadata has emerged as the navigator helping organisations understand the context behind data.

Let's understand how we can use Metadata to help drive business decisions.

Business Metadata helps with context

Data has no value without context.

Business metadata describes data in a way that makes sense to people in the business world, not just technical experts. It includes things like:

  1. What the data is about (a description).
  2. How it's used in the company's operations or decision-making.

For example: An organisation maintains a business glossary that defines terms such as "Customer Lifetime Value (CLV)" with explanations of how it's calculated and used by various marketing teams.
